About the Champions for Music Education Program
Everyone could use a mentor. That’s why we came up with the idea of spokespeople for the Coalition, neatly named Champions for Music Education. Our Champions program started in 2005 when a group of musicians gave voice to a series of public service announcements that focused on personal messages about the importance of music education. These PSAs played on radio stations across the country.
In 2007 we broadened our focus to include community leaders who recognized that their success was, in part, due to a music education. From astronauts to prima ballerinas, our Champions lent their celebrity status as leaders in the arts and business to the Coalition.
2010 saw 16 new Champions joining our group, bringing a total of 57 Champions for Music Education into the Coalition. 57 people from all walks of life who are ready and willing to testify to the power of music and the joy it can give to everyone. In these pages you’ll be able to read about all our Champions and to listen to their statements about the importance of music education.
